The Asia Council was founded in 2016 to serve as a forum for Asia’s heads of state or government and key decision makers to deliberate on the challenges facing Asia.
The fellowship was instituted last year to fund outstanding students from selected Asian countries to avail the best in global education and enable them to emerge as future global leaders in their chosen field. The application deadline for 2017 fellowship is April 30.
The council offers three different fellowships. The Asia Council Global Leaders Fellowship is meant to support Asian students for Graduate Studies at Harvard University, University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
The Asia Council Asia Fellowship supports Asian students for Graduate Studies at National University of Singapore, Peking University, University of Hong Kong, University of Tokyo, Seoul National University and Kyoto University.
The Asia Council Einstein Fellowship is meant to support Asian students for Graduate Studies at Nanyang Technological University, Tsinghua University, KAIST, Hong Kong University of Science & Technology and Tokyo Institute of Technology.
The fellowships cover up to 100 per cent of all university fees and living expenses. Candidates are selected by an eminent panel based on their potential to emerge as a global leader in their chosen field. The council covers 48 sovereign states and 6 partially sovereign or dependent territories of the continent of Asia and is headquartered in Tokyo with regional directorates at Bangkok, Doha, Chengdu and 42 country offices. The first Asia Council summit is scheduled for 2018.
